Dr. Olga Spriggs has been the Music Director/cantor/pianist/organist at OLMC since 2014. She holds a doctoral degree (DMA) in Choral Conducting from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), a Master's Degree in Conducting as well as Bachelor's Degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. Currently, Dr. Olga is an adjunct professor of music at Riverside City College where she teaches choir and applied voice lessons.
Prior to her work at Riverside City College, Dr. Olga was on faculty at CSULB teaching University Choir (a 60-voice mixed ensemble of voice majors), music education courses for liberal studies majors, and choral conducting. She has also taught the 49er Chorus (a 50-voice non-auditioned ensemble) and the Orion Chorus (formerly Men's Chorus). She was the Assistant Conductor of the Long Beach Camerata Singers and taught private lessons in piano and voice, while working as an elementary music education teacher in the Centralia School District in Buena Park, CA. While in residence at CCM, she directed the University of Cincinnati Men's Chorus, a 60-voice TTBB ensemble comprised of students from the across the UC's fifteen colleges. Additionally, she was the Assistant Director of the Cincinnati Youth Choir, a professional singer with the Cincinnati's Vocal Arts Ensemble and cantor/pianist at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Choirs under Dr. Olga's direction have traveled on tour both in the US and Canada, and have sung in collaboration with the Long Beach Symphony, Cincinnati Pops, and CCM Orchestras. Dr. Olga's mentors include Jonathan Talberg, Earl Rivers, Brett Scott, Leonid Levitsky, and Elisabeth Pehlivanian.
Dr. Olga has been active in the Diocese of Orange since 1994. She grew up singing in the Children’s Choir at Blessed Sacrament Church in Westminster. Her first official position as a pianist/organist/cantor was at St. Polycarp in Stanton, followed by St. Joseph’s in Santa Ana and St. Mary’s-by-the-Sea in Huntington Beach where she held her first Director of Music position. During her doctoral studies in Cincinnati, she was a sought-after cantor, pianist, and organist substitute at Xavier University’s Bellarmine Chapel and other local parishes.
Born in Moscow, Russia, and having moved to the US at a young age, she is fluent in Russian, English, and knows some basic French. She is a sought after Russian Diction coach for choirs and singers, and wrote a doctoral document entitled "A Choral Guide to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's 'Moscow' Coronation Cantata" focusing on creating an updated edition of Tchaikovsky's "Moscow" Coronation Cantata with a full transliteration. Additionally, she has presented her Russian Diction research at conferences, including the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio.
When she is not performing, Dr. Olga spends time with her husband and two young children, and loves to travel, garden, and try new food.
